Recycling involves more than just separating one type of garbage from another. The most challenging part of the process is fiuring out how the various waste materials found in the piles of stuff we throw away everyday can be turned back into something useful. Metals, like the aluminum found in soft drink cans are no problem at all. Once the metal is melted down, it is as good as new again, ready for any use. Paper is a somewhat more complex problem because of the inks and other chemicals that are othen a part of it. But that can also be dealt with relatively easily.Plastics are the biggest recycling headache of them all. Plastics are persistent materials, which is to say that unlike paper, metal or wood, if plastics are discarded carelessly they will remain in the environment effectively forever. They don't rust or rot away. Given the amount of plastic we use for making everything from bags to computers, this creates a problem so big that it might soon bury us. Even so-called biodegradable plastics only break down when exposed to sunlight, not when they are covered over in huge piles or buried underground. Fortunately, new technology is coming to the rescue. It is now possible to turn old plastic into new products, and companies that want to make use of this suddenly valuable resource are springing up everywhere.

3. This article gave me a great thinking of the health of earth. Now summer is coming soon. Even now is just May, but I can already feel the heat of sun. And it makes me recall my childhood. I don’t remember that time I have to stay in the air conditioning room all day, but now I don’t think I can live without air conditioning. The earth is getting hotter and hotter. Our earth is sick, and it’s our responsibility to protect the earth.
